Susanne Doremus’s work has been described as turbulent abstractions, furious patterns in which she emphasizes formal rhythms over narrative concerns.

Doremus (born 1943) has exhibited extensively throughout the Midwest for over fifteen years. In 1983 and 1984 she was awarded an Illinois Arts Council Fellowship and a National Endowment of the Arts Individual Artists Grant. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Smart Museum of Art, University of Chicago; the Rockford Museum of Art; and numerous other public and private collections.

Doremus is currently the chair of the painting department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She received a BA from Elmira College, New York, and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
