Stephanie Bird (born 1960) deals with autobiographical/personal subjects such as pregnancies and deaths in her family as well as using the female saints for her own personal metaphors. She recently returned from a six-month Australian trip studying the art and lives of the aborigines under the auspices of a Senior Fulbright Scholar Award. She has also received awards from the Ford Foundation and Wisconsin Women in the Arts. She has exhibited at the University of Illinois at Chicago African American Cultural Center; the Daley Center, Chicago; Mandeville Gallery of San Diego; Northern Illinois University Gallery; and the Davenport Museum of Art, among other spaces.

Currently she is an assistant professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she teaches painting and drawing. Bird received a BA from Tyler School of Art at Temple University and an MFA from the University of California at San Diego in 1986.
