Part anthropological fieldworker, part dramaturge, New York-based artist Sharon Hayes s (born 1970) artistic role is to orchestrate and document collective activity in the public domain. Her video, performance, and installation projects have engaged individual and group perceptions of political events and ideologies, employing conceptual and methodological approaches borrowed from artistic and academic practices such as theater, film, anthropology, linguistics, and journalism.

Sharon Hayes s work has been shown at MoMA PS1; Andrew Kreps Gallery, New York; The Parlour Project Space Gallery and Studios, London; Dance Theater Workshop, New York; and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. She is currently on the faculty at Cooper Union, New York.
