Paul Chan is a digital media and video artist and the Director of National Philistine, an online political and aesthetic think tank. At the end of 2002, Chan spent a month in Baghdad as a member of the Iraq Peace Team, a group initiated by Voices in the Wilderness, the Nobel Peace Prize-nominated Iraqi activist group that works to non-violently challenge the U.S. campaign for war. Chan extensively documented his surroundings on video. The resulting work, Baghdad in No Particular Order, depicts local daily activities, such as caf visits, a wedding party, and a military parade, prior to the country’s invasion.

Chan’s work has been exhibited and screened at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the New York Video Festival; and the Rotterdam International Film Festival, among others. Chan was awarded a Rockefeller Foundation New Media Arts Fellowship in 2003. Chan will be included in the upcoming 2004 Carnegie International group exhibition. He is represented by Greene Naftali Gallery in New York and his video work is distributed by the Video Data Bank in Chicago. Chan is currently a lecturer for the Department of Fine Arts at The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. Chan received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
