Carlos Basualdo (born 1964) is an independent curator and Adjunct Professor at Instituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia, Italy. Basualdo was a co-curator for the internationally renowned project Documenta 11 in Kassel, Germany (2002) and the curator for The Structure of Survival, an exhibition in the 50th Venice Biennale (2003). Formerly the chief Curator of Exhibitions at Wexner Center for the Arts, Basualdo is also a regular contributor to Artforum and Art Nexus, among other publications. In this lecture, Basualdo discusses the revolutionary South American modern art and cultural movement. Emerging in 1967, the development comprehensively impacted popular culture, music, cinema, theater, and fine arts. 

In 2005, Basualdo curated Tropic lia at Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, in which he revisited tropicalismo, featuring the works of artists that participated in the landmark exhibition New Brazilian Objectivity, including Lygia Clark, Lygia Pape, Ant nio Dias, and others.
