POST Chicago: April 2003–April 2004 is an exhibition of posters commissioned during the first year of the Chicago-based project POST, an initiative headed by Keri Butler and Lisa Williamson, which invites Chicago artists to create posters for the public space to be posted monthly throughout various neighborhoods. POST increases the artists ’ audiences and generates new forms of intervention, discussion, and communication. Employing the billboard, poster, leaflet, flyer, and other means of inexpensive mass-produced communicative media, POST provides another mode of distribution for a vast range of ideas and considerations.
The POST Chicago exhibition features a year of the monthly posters by artists such as Pedro Velez, Andy Hall, Rena Leinberger, Michael Wolf, John Neff, Vincent Dermody, Artists of the Little City Multi-Disciplinary Arts Center, Philip von Zweck, Kristen VanDeventer, Ben Gill, Siebren Versteeg, and Deva Maitland. Each poster is accompanied by documentation of its display in public spaces. Limited supplies of posters are available at the show.
POST Chicago: April 2003–April 2004 is presented concurrently with Alert: Please Proceed to a Shelter Nearest You
and The Paper Sculpture Show.
