Allen Ruppersberg (born 1944) uses language as a means of expression in its own right. Working with paintings, prints, photographs, sculptures, installations, and books, he is part of the first generation of American conceptual artists and is recognized as a seminal practitioner of installation art. He has exhibited in solo shows at Hanes Art Center Gallery, University of North Carolina; Cash/Newhouse Gallery, New York; Marian Goodman Gallery, New York; James Corcoran Gallery, Los Angeles; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Institute for Art and Urban Resources Inc., New York; Marian Goodman Gallery, New York; Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Texas Gallery, Houston; Claire S. Copley Gallery, Los Angeles; Information Gallery, University of California, Irvine; and internationally at Kabinett f r aktuelle Kunst, Bremerhaven, Germany; Yvon Lambert, Paris; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; Galerie Francoise Lambert, Milan; and Situation Gallery, London, among many others. He participated in the Whitney Biennial (1970 and 1975) and Documenta V (1972). Ruppersberg received a BFA from the Chouinard Art Institute, Los Angeles.
