UIC Design at TypeCon "Nice"

Typecon

The UIC School of Design is well-represented at TypeCon: 2019, “Nice,” August 28–September 1 in Minneapolis. 

TypeCon is an annual conference presented by the Society of Typographic Aficionados (SoTA), an international organization dedicated to the promotion, study, and support of typography in education and practice. Sharon Oiga, Associate Professor of UIC Graphic Design is Chair of SoTA and a co-organizer of the conference. She is joined in Minneapolis this year by a team of incoming UIC Master of Design Students who will participate in the conference events. Alice J. Lee (UIC MDes 2015), Assistant Professor in Graphic Design at Texas State University, is among the UIC-related educators who makes in the line up of conference presenters.

 Since the inaugural conference in 1998, TypeCon has explored typography for the screen, printing history, Dutch design, type in motion, Arabic calligraphy, the American Arts and Crafts movement, experimental typography, webfonts, and much more. Special events include the Type & Design Education Forum, and an exhibition of international type and design.
