Pierre Dorion s (born 1959) understated paintings of architectural spaces and objects generate a palpable sense of the uncanny. From the most mundane subjects a tie, a bathroom stall, a flight of stairs he creates an irresolute stillness and an affecting sense of anxiety. These paintings and works on paper, often based on photographs he takes while traveling, function in a space between painting, photography, and installation.
Pierre Dorion lives and works in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Solo exhibitions of his work have been held at Centre International d’Art Contemporain, Montreal; Southern Alberta Art Gallery; Art Gallery of York University; Galerie Ren Blouin, Montreal; and Jack Shainman Gallery, New York.</
