Catherine Bock-Weiss is a professor of modern history in the department of art history, theory, and criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her research has been mainly on Henri Matisse. Her book Matisse and Neo Impressionism 1898 1908 appeared in 1981 and she is completing an annotated bibliography of Matisse literature, Henri Matisse: A Guide to Research, which will be published by Garland Press in 1994.
Bock-Weiss also lectures and teaches on a broad range of topics in twentieth-century art. She earned an MFA in painting from the Catholic University of America, Washington, D.C., and a PhD in art history from the University of California, Los Angeles.
