Curating Otherwise explores questions of contemporary curatorial approaches to racializing exhibition practices. Some of these questions include the politics of visibility, inclusivity, and institutional representation, while others trouble the notion of minoritized or marginalizing artistic practices. This panel discussion will focus on curatorial practices that navigate complex identities, histories, institutional limitations, and artistic, curatorial, and art historical conventions in presenting the work of Black, Brown, and Indigenous artists.

Participants:

  • Allison M. Glenn, Curator of Out Of Easy Reach and Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art
  • Janet Dees, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University
  • Risa Puleo, Independent Curator and Scholar

Moderator:
Sampada Aranke, Assistant Professor in the Art History, Theory, Criticism Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago
