Jamey Aebersold Concert Series

Sponsored by jazz pedagogue and publisher Jamey Aebersold, the Jazz Concert Series at UIC will showcase the work of established Chicago jazz artists throughout the Fall of 2019. Free and open to the public by Mr. Aebersold’s request, the Series provides the School of Theatre and Music an opportunity to share jazz with our community, and a place for our students to observe jazz skills.

Experience the vibrant colors and sounds of the UIC Campus this fall with UIC’s Jazz Ensemble! The UIC Jazz Ensemble will perform music drawn from the heart of the big band conducted by Michael Stryker. Enjoy music from the past 70 years with the likes of Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, Duke Ellington Orchestra and many more. We encourage you to bring your blankets, snacks and cameras to truly embrace UIC at its most beautiful time of the year.
Jazz at the Ambassador

Symphonic Band Concert

Join the Symphonic Band with a repertoire that spans from the Middle Ages to the most refined 21st Century Music. This concert will include music by David Maslanka, Michael Markowski, Brian Balmages, Tomohiro Tatebe, John Adams, Morten Lauridsen, Kathryn Salfelde, and John Mackey directed by Nicholas Carlson.

250 Years of Beethoven
Who doesn’t love a good birthday party? with cake? at the beginning of a weekend? Come hear the UICO perform the very first of Ludwig von Beethoven’s nine symphonies on Friday October 18th. This performance is the first of a set devoted our celebration of the 250th birthyear of this globally, legendary composer by UIC’s classical music ensembles.

Enriched by a New Beauty: The Beauty of Speed
The UIC Wind Ensemble will celebrate its seven-year anniversary by bringing alumni, and faculty guest-artists to a special performance. Enjoy the premiere of John Mackey’s Sacred Spaces, the intense electronic sounds of Steven Bryant’s The Automatic Earth and the World Premiere of John Henneken’s latest untitled work conducted by Jose Oliver Riojas.
Honors Band Festival

This year’s Honors Band Festival will feature Dr. Linda Moorhouse from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. The repertoire for the Honors Band Festival will include Sacred Spaces by John Mackey, Festive Overture by Dmitry Shostakovich and Molly on the Shore by Percy Aldridge Grainger. The Honors Band Festival recruits the most exceptional band students from all of the Midwest to perform and learn from renowned guest conductors. The Honors Band Festival, invites band directors from elementary schools across the Midwest to observe college level conducting.
Pop-Rock Ensemble

A New Day
A gift from the UIC Choral program to the community is their annual concert, UIC Sings! at the Notre Dame Church of Chicago. This spectacular performance will feature Ave Maria by Javier Busto, You Are the New Day by John David, The Snow by Edward Elgar, and Ave Verum Corpus by William Byrd.
Chamber Music Concert

Listen to a Jazz, Pop and Blues potpourri with this fall’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble conducted by Cheryl Wilson. The repertoire will include Birdland by Weather Report, Route 66 by Cheetah Girls Style, People Get Ready by Rod Stewart and more. Cheryl Wilson is a mentor to some of the greatest jazz and pop singers of our time.

The UIC Percussion Ensemble will perform music that ranges from contemporary percussion to traditional works performed at schools of music throughout the nation. This fall’s percussion concert will include music by Chicago’s David Skidmore with works like Whisperer and Stolen, Torched and Wrecked. Also, don’t miss works by Ivan Trevino with Space Junk directed by Jordan Kamps.
UIC Holiday Concert

Start your Holiday season with a concert by the UIC Choirs, UIC Orchestra and UIC Wind Ensemble at the Benito Juarez Performing Arts Center in Pilsen. The concert’s repertoire includes Carmen Fantaisie Brillante by Francoise Borne performed by UIC’s Wind Ensemble and solo by student flutist Kamryn Lindley, the UIC Choirs will perform Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desirely by Johann Sebastian Bach, Fum, Fum, Fum by Shaw and Parker, Shepherd Rejoice by Morley Thomas and many more. Is there a better way to finish the semester and start your holiday break?!
