This workshop, led by professional clown and performance artist Douglas Grew from Pilsen-based Pros Arts Studio, will introduce you to the essential principles of clown performance. You’ll explore the emotional depth of pathos, the comic absurdity of bathos, and how these contrasting elements combine to create impactful comedy. We’ll journey through the history of clowning and explore the unique personalities of three iconic clown archetypes—the Bossy Clown, Cute Clown, and Character Clown—and how each archetype adds its own flair to the world of performance. You’ll experiment with these archetypes through interactive, hands-on activities and discover your own comedic style. Whether you’re a first-time performer or a seasoned pro, this workshop is perfect for anyone eager to unleash their inner performer and discover the powerful connection between comedy, movement, and emotion.

Registration is required. Lunch will be served.

ACCESS INFORMATION: This program is free and open to the public. The 5th floor Great Space is accessible via elevator. For questions and access accommodations, email gallery400engagement@gmail.com.
