The School of Architecture is thrilled to share the news that Professor David Brown has been named artistic director of the 2021 edition of the Chicago Architecture Biennial. The biennial’s theme, The Available City, extends Brown’s ongoing research into the potential of collective space in the city today. Its non-hierarchical, flexible, and variable approach develops from his study of design implications of structures that facilitate improvisation in jazz.

On Tuesday, October 27, Brown will be in conversation with Oakland-based designer Walter Hood. More information on the event is available on the biennial’s website.

The Available City, the biennial’s fourth edition, opens in September 2021 and will include programs both in Chicago and online. Visit chicagoarchitecturebiennial.org for a schedule of ongoing programming leading up to and running throughout the 2021 edition.
