Late Course Drop Information and Petition
Students are required to submit a petition to drop an individual course or courses after the add/drop deadline.
UIC undergraduate students may drop a maximum of 4 individual courses that result in a listed “W” on their transcript during their entire stay at UIC.
The “W” does not impact the student’s Grade Point Average (GPA).
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Design degree students: Computer Science and Design strictly enforces the CS department’s repeat policy found here.
If you need to submit a late course drop petition please review the following information.
Check with your instructor if there are opportunities to catch up and pass the course. If you determine a withdrawal is necessary, tell your instructor of your intention to file a late course drop petition.
Check with your academic advisor to see if a late course drop will impact your progress to degree.
Check with the UIC Office of Student Financial Aid to learn if a late course drop or “W” will impact your financial aid including MAP, Pell, or Aspire grants.
- To maintain your financial aid eligibility, you must pass more than half of your classes with a minimum 67% completion ratio for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). A completion ratio is the number of earned credit hours divided by the number of attempted credit hours. Withdrawn courses, failed grades, incompletes, deferred grades and non-reported grades (NR) do not earn credit hours.
- A late course drop “W” will count against your Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) completion ratio for financial aid purposes, even though it does not affect your Grade Point Average (GPA).
- A minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00 is required by the end of each academic year to maintain financial aid eligibility. Failing grades will impact your SAP completion ratio for financial aid eligibility.
- Email CADAFinAid@uic.edu or visit 1200 W.Harrison Street (Student Services Building) during business hours, Monday – Friday, from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
