Students in UIC’s College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts engage in a broad range of careers and practices after graduating. Here are a few examples:
Tiffany Funk (MFA 2012, PhD 2016) is Editor in Chief of the Video Game Art (VGA) Reader. The VGA Gallery was cofounded by Jonathan Kinkley (MA 2009) and Chaz Evans (MA 2011, MFA 2012) and explores the artistic potential and cultural impact of video games.
Matthew van der Ploeg (MArch ’11) co-curated the Swiss Pavilion at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale with three other independent Swiss architects. Their project, Svizzera 240, explored the conditions of the conventional, unfurnished interiors of new-construction housing. It received the Golden Lion for Best National Participation.
Brandon Biederman (MA ’14, MArch ’14) is an associate at the design consultancy PORT Urbanism. He has been integral to the development of many of PORT’s public realm projects, most recently the Lakeview Low-Line at Chicago. The plan seeks to activate a stretch of underused space below the elevated Brown Line tracks between Paulina Street and Ashland Avenue on the border of the Roscoe Village and Lakeview neighborhoods.
Cheryl Lynn Bruce (BA ’70) is an actor, director, writer, and educator. She has worked with Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Goodman Theatre, Lookingglass Theatre Company, and more. Recently she directed Dominique Morisseau’s Pipeline at the Victory Gardens Theater.
