*Post Show Talk: Tyranny, Freedom, and Responsibility

Rome in the first century BCE feels remarkably familiar. Torn by men and women vying for power in order to do good—for themselves, for their families, for the future of the Republic—nothing less than the future is at stake, and Brutus is a man caught in the middle with the ability to make a difference.

ROME SWEET ROME is a remix of William Shakespeare’s classic, JULIUS CAESAR, that blends rap and hip-hop culture with socio-political commentary on contemporary politics. Written by Jeff Award-winning Q Brothers.

Post-Show Talk Guest: Jeffrey Gore

Jeffrey Gore is a scholar of the English Renaissance who teaches in the Department of English at UIC. His courses at UIC cover topics ranging from the plays of Shakespeare to the politics of food to utopian and dystopian literature and film. Dr. Gore regularly presents papers at national and international conferences on writers such as William Shakespeare and John Milton, and he is particularly interested in the convergence of politics, social class, and education in both the Renaissance and the present. Dr. Gore is currently writing a book with the tentative title “The Cunning of Pedagogical Reason: Class and Political Theology in John Milton’s Educational Writings.”
