Program Specific Requirements

In addition to University admission and application requirements, applicants to the College of Architecture, Design, and the Arts must meet the following additional requirements:

Architecture: A supplemental Common Application personal statement explaining your interest in UIC’s Architecture program and desire to study architecture is highly recommended. Portfolios are not required and only used for those students requesting advanced placement.

Students who have completed at least one full year of architectural design work at another university or college are eligible to apply for advanced placement in the School of Architecture. Applicants wishing to apply for advanced placement must submit a portfolio of design work to the School of Architecture and not the Office of Admission. Acceptance into the school does not guarantee advanced placement. Portfolio requirements

Art: A supplemental Common Application personal statement explaining your interest in UIC’s Art program and desire to study Art is highly recommended. No portfolio is required for acceptance. All students must select Art Foundation as their major on the Common Application.

Students who have taken art courses at other colleges and universities should be aware that, for most students, these courses will be credited as electives only. Art courses from other colleges and universities will be assessed for credit by the faculty of that major. Because courses are structured around specific goals and sequencing, the school strongly encourages potential majors to complete their first-year program requirements at UIC’s School of Art and Art History.

Art History: A supplemental Common Application personal statement explaining interest in UIC’s Art History program and area of study is highly recommended.

Design: A supplemental Common Application personal statement explaining interest in UIC’s Design program and area of study in Graphic or Industrial Design is highly recommended. No portfolio is required for acceptance. Students must select Graphic/Industrial Design Foundation as their major on the Common Application.
